KIWANIS DOLLARS FOR SCHOLARS On May 24, 2011, the community came together at Laurel Manor Recreation Center to honor outstanding members of the Villages High School graduating class of 2011. The event, known as the Villages High School Senior Awards Ceremony, was sponsored and organized by the Buffalo Scholarship Foundation and was designed to recognize those who stood out among the 122 graduating seniors. Many local civic and social organizations were invited to use the platform as a venue in which to publicly recognize those seniors to whom scholarships would be awarded. Twenty-four of those organizations responded and took part in the ceremony, including the Kiwanis Club of Lady Lake, represented by Barbara Rogers, Deb Tinsley and Cleve Tinsley. It became evident early during the proceedings that the Villages High School class of 2011 was brimming with talent and promise and that the future was in good hands. It was a night to remember. Of the twenty-three other organizations, none came close to matching the number of scholarships awarded by the Kiwanis Club of Lady Lake. Kiwanis Terrific Kids/Key Club scholarships handed out totaled fifteen, amounting to $15,000.00. All were deserved and appreciated. This serves as a testimonial to those Lady Lake Kiwanians who dedicate their time and energy to ensure that our Terrific Kids and Key Club programs remain viable and vibrant. Our scholarship program helps those children take the giant step into young adulthood as they are instilled with the courage, desire and incentive to stand up and say, “Look at me. I am somebody and I seek to become event better through the pursuit of a higher education.” Congratulations to the Villages High School class of 2011 and special kudos to the Terrific Kids/Key Club scholarship winners.
